Under the leadership of Dr. Ramkissoon, Capital Hospital has evolved into a premier training hub for surgeons not only from across South Africa but also from around the globe, hosting numerous international workshops.
The urology unit at Capital Hospital is at the forefront of medical innovation, offering a range of advanced technologies, including laparoscopic surgery and a specialised men’s health unit focused on modern prostate treatments.
Prostate health remains a significant concern for men worldwide, with surgery for obstructive prostate conditions being the second most common procedure performed globally. Traditionally, various techniques have been used to address this issue, but the advent of Holmium laser prostatectomy (HoLEP) has revolutionised treatment.
HoLEP, performed using a Holmium laser supplied by Vertice, drastically reduces hospital stays to typically just one day, compared to the three to five days required for traditional procedures. This advancement allows patients to resume their daily activities and normal functions much faster.
