In September 2023, Vertice demonstrated its commitment to making a meaningful impact through its involvement in the Gift of the Givers Malawi Pituitary Tumour Surgery Blitz Project. Pituitary tumours, the fourth most common brain tumour, often lead to visual deterioration and, if left untreated, can cause blindness. Recognising the urgent need for intervention, Dr. C Profyris was invited by Associate Professor Dongosolo Patrick Kamalo, Chief Specialist at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH), to assist with resecting these challenging tumours.

The Neurosurgery Department at QECH, led by Assoc. Prof. Kamalo, has been dedicated to growth and upskilling. Vertice’s endoscopic stack has played a crucial role in their pursuit of local pituitary surgery, aiming to alleviate the burdensome process of sending patients to India and providing more accessible and cost-effective care.
From 22 to 24 November, our mission focused on assisting five patients, four of whom had giant pituitary tumours. With the support of Vertice’s equipment and the presence of our representative, Brad Rudy, we worked closely with Assoc. Prof. Kamalo and his team to ensure successful surgeries.
